Timeline
In 2024, Madison Merkel began writing a stage play about a young woman grappling with the loss of her mother and a daunting rock climbing project. As the story evolved, Kelsey Risher joined the process with fresh perspective—what began as a solo writing effort soon became a collaboration that transformed the concept into a short film: CRUX.
Knowing they wanted to perform together, Madison and Kelsey co-wrote the script, crafting a story rooted in grief, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds of female connection. As their vision expanded, so did the team. When it came time to build a crew, Kelsey felt the call to direct, bringing her distinct voice to the film’s vision.
What emerged was a deeply collaborative project—written by women, starring women, and directed by a woman. This creative alignment has remained the compass for CRUX throughout its journey.
Now, CRUX has officially wrapped filming in Alabama under the banner of Straley Studios and is charging forward with post-production. With a powerful team behind it and a story that resonates deeply, CRUX is gaining momentum as it prepares to make its debut on the film festival circuit.
